Microsoft Office 2010 – Yes You Can
PAS runs just fine using MS Word 2010 as the editor. Nonetheless, there are several issues to keep in mind when purchasing and installing Office 2010.
First – If you are upgrading from Office 2007 we have found that a CD install is necessary. Not sure why, but every downloaded Office 2010 upgrade we tested failed to properly remove (or disable in the registry) the previously installed version of Office 2007 leaving PAS unable to ‘find’ any Word version to open when creating a report. So don’t trust a downloaded upgrade, get the CD.
Second – When you purchase Office 2010 make certain that you are getting the full install version, NOT the Click-to-Run version. Microsoft has muddied the waters with this new type of Office install that runs in a vitural window on your computer. The Click-to-Run version of Office 2010 will not interact with PAS or any other integrated product. The best way to assure you are getting and installing a full version of Office 2010 is to do a CD install (not a download) Note: This has nothing to do with the Student, Home or Pro versions (PAS will run with all of them) but rather Click-to-Run. Pay attention when you purchase Office 2010.
Third – You must purchase the 32 bit version of Office 2010. Don’t worry as it will run fine on your 64 bit computer (if you have one). The 64 bit version of Office 2010 has altered VB coding that has changed or drops ‘calls’ that PAS makes when creating the report. Be sure to purchase the 32 bit version.
